Decluttering is one of the MOST important tasks you can do before selling your home. Decluttering doesn’t mean that you have to completely remove all items from your home — just minimize what you have on display and keep the items that are important for your everyday lifestyle accessible.
Typically, we see our sellers buy a bunch of moving boxes then start packing them with items they want to remove. Your garage may look packed, but buyers can see through the 50 boxes in your garage easier than a ton of items in your home.
Here’s a list of items that we recommend considering before selling
To Empty/Clear:
- Bookshelves
- Counters — bathrooms, kitchen, any counters you use
- Desktops
- Couches
- Hallways
- Photos
- Front and Back Yard
- Tables
- Laundry Room
- Unneeded items from closets
To Organize:
- Panty, Fridge, Freezer
- Linen Closets
- Closets
- Kitchen drawers
To Garden:
- Remove dead plants from garden
- Remove overgrown trees, shrubs, or plants in garden
- Remove any plants covering the walkway and minimizing space
Ideally when you have completed this list, your home should look and feel empty. Your garage may look like it’s filled to the brim and that’s okay! Keeping furniture is typical because we will use it in our staging. If you have any questions or need help, you can always reach out to the reframe team!
